Putting out annotations and highlights is akin to bookmarking this vast informational space that is the internet. Think about it. Annotations and Highlights which are Public build a shared map among all contributors. This map represents the collective interest. What people are interested to know. An idea would be to build an interactive graph of the "Public" map. Now, by publishing the annotations and highlights to a group, you are building a "Personal" map, the same way you do by bookmarking wormhole chains during solo exploration, "unknown space".
