Organism as collective of cells held together by a "cognitive glue" called Bioelectricity. Cancer cells "Immortal", disconnect and consider the rest as external.
Bioelectric faces is literally a patterns of signals that describes an outcome, a feature.
No cells knows the shape of a finger and/or how many should there be, but the collective definitely does.
Question, in this whole process where does the memory of forms reside? In other terms, how does protocolized interaction manifest memory ability?
